The benefits of getting outdoors for mental health are already well established and when paired with therapy, we get the opportunity to engage in counseling in a new way. I provide Walk & Talk sessions at a local park in Dallas. You set the pace and we'll walk together and talk through the topics you want to focus on, automatically engaging in mindfulness and finding plenty of naturally occurring metaphors within our surroundings.
There are issues around Walk & Talk therapy that are different from traditional office-based or virtual therapy, including confidentiality and weather considerations. For this reason, I require a first session either in-office or in a virtual setting prior to engaging in Walk & Talk sessions to discuss these topics. If we decide Walk & Talk is a good fit, we can then move our sessions outdoors!
