Welcome! I'm glad you're here. I believe every person can learn new strategies to live purposeful lives that make a difference in this world. I want to walk alongside clients as they identify their strengths and resources, explore problems, and implement solutions that will positively affect their lives. I know how difficult it can be to manage the stresses of life and I want to help you experience confidence that you can be present and in control when hard things happen.
I hold a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lamar University and a bachelor's in political science from Texas Tech University. My experience includes individual counseling at various sites, including Collin College Counseling Services and Community Counseling Associates in Allen, TX, as well as facilitating grief groups through Journey of Hope. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC #84104) in the State of Texas and a proud member of the Texas Counseling Association. Before becoming a counselor, my professional life included working as an executive assistant, finance assistant, and HR generalist in the non-profit sector.
Personally, I love volunteering weekly with my faith community, in particular mentoring and spending time with teens as they begin to figure life out! It gives me so much hope for the future. I also enjoy being outdoors, walking for fresh air and exercise, hanging out with my family, and grabbing a good beer with friends. Please reach out if you'd like to work together!
Why "Reframe?"
Several years ago, when I was out driving, thinking about what I would name a private practice if the opportunity ever arose, I immediately thought of "reframe." Reframing is a common CBT skill used to help folks see their situation in a more accurate light after they do the work of examining the problem from all angles. Sometimes the reframe is a complete 180, but most often, at least in my experience, it's a gentle adjustment that lets people become more aware of their own strength and resiliency.
CBT isn't the only modality I incorporate, but it's what I was first taught, and it undergirds a lot of my conceptualization of what creates change for people. A realization that how we appraise ourselves, both positively and negatively, can have a huge impact on our next steps. I like to help clients explore the story they tell themselves about their lives, to check its accuracy and helpfulness, and to identify and move toward the values they want to live by.
Whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, or life transitions, my goal is to guide you toward a deeper understanding of yourself where you can see opportunities for change and growth. Sometimes a renewed frame of mind can change everything.
If we have a virtual session, you may notice Skylar in the background. Skylar has no formal training to speak of but naturally excels at providing a calm, quiet presence. She's mainly here for the cat naps! Feel free to introduce me to your pets as well. (Skylar is NOT present at in-person sessions in my office.)
